Second Coming of the Lord -- Not in 2026 or anytime soon
Some LDS podcasters are saying the Lord is coming soon -- an apostle or prophet hinted at this or that and a comet was spotted, etc. While we do not know when the Second Coming of the Lord will be (Joseph Smith Matthew 1: 40), that great and terrible day when Jesus returns in glory, we know many things must happen first. Why? Because the scriptures say these things will happen before the Lord's return to earth.
- The Gospel must be preached to all nations first (Matthew 24: 14, Joseph Smith Matthew 1: 31). I'm not an expert about where all the missions exist in the world, but I have never heard of any missions in China or India, each nation with over 1 billion people comprising about 25% of the world's population. Nor are there any missions in No. Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. that I know of.
- Israel has not yet had missionaries. The first shall be last and the last shall be first (1 Nephi 13: 42). The gospel was preached by Jesus first to the Jews, and later it was taught to the Gentiles. In modern times, the Gentiles received the gospel, then the Jews will receive it. When we have missionaries preaching in Jerusalem, which is strictly forbidden right now, that will be a major sign that the gospel has been preached to every nation in the world.
- The New Jerusalem will be built up first in Jackson County, Missouri. This city will be "a land of peace, a city of refuge, a place of safety for the saints of the Most High God." -- D&C 45: 66. Also, Brigham Young said when the saints arrive there to build the city, it will be so empty that there won't be so much as a "little yellow dog to wag his tail."
- The sun will be darkened (great pollution? solar eclipse?), the moon will not give light, and the stars fall from heaven (meteor shower?), and the powers of heaven will be shaken. -- Joseph Smith Matthew 1: 33.
- More scriptures will be given describing events that are about to happen before the Second Coming (1 Nephi 14: 35-26, Ether 3: 27, Ether 4: 4-7).
- Joseph Smith said the rainbow will not be seen in the year of the Lord's Second Coming (apparently anywhere on earth presumably due to drought), or because the Lord will come early in that year (like in January). I've already seen the rainbow in 2026, so it won't be this year.
- Armageddon, spoken of in Revelation where the nations attack Jerusalem, must happen first, followed by the Lord splitting the Mount of Olives for the Jews to escape. -- D&C 45: 48
- The two prophets in the book of Revelation will defend Jerusalem & Israel for 3 1/2 years from the attacking nations -- see Revelation 11
