Learning to Grow Food & Bake Bread

I'm learning to plant vegetables for emergency preparedness.  I live in an apartment complex.  There is no land for me to plant and grow food, so I bought 3 pots and soil from Walmart.

Here in Florida, almost everything grows with the warm weather and plenty of sunlight.  So I planted seeds of different vegetables in the pots, watered it, and waited a few weeks -- nothing happened.  Then I planted seeds again in each of the 3 pots, watered, and waited again -- nothing happened.  So I repeated these steps a third time and again, no results.  So I just left it and forgot about it.

Months later I have two or more plants growing in each of the three pots -- and I can't remember what I planted in which pot.  Now I'm just going to keep watering and let nature take its course.

Clearly I don't know what I'm doing, and that is the point of all of this:  to have some experience should it be required at some point in the future.

When I was a boy, my family lived in northern California in a big house on over an acre of land and we had a big garden.  I remember how delicious and fresh the vegetables were coming straight from our own garden.  We harvested sweet corn and cooked and ate it within an hour of removing it from the plant -- and that was so delicious, the best corn I've ever had.  Nothing like what you buy in stores.

Up until last year, I had never baked a loaf of bread in my life, but I remember how good the bread was that my mom made when I was young.  So, again for emergency preparedness reasons, I started baking bread last year.  I've made a dozen loaves of bread since starting a few months ago -- now I'm getting pretty good at making different types of bread, including 100% wheat, half wheat/half white, and Einkorn.  My bread is tasty and much healthier than the chemically treated bread with glyphosate in it.  Now I bake nearly all the bread we eat.

Someone in each ward and stake needs to have the knowledge to grow food and catch fish, or hunt animals or birds, obtain clean water, and have emergency equipment.  I'm planning on building a cheap, portable Air Conditioner using a cooler, ice, hoses, and a fan.  It's better than nothing in a hot place like Florida.

I invite everyone to start preparing for what could be needed at any time on a moment's notice.
